About the Play
Hunger is a condition in which a person, for a sustained period, is unable to eat sufficient food to meet basic nutritional needs. Apart from that, the world is surrounded with different kinds of hunger, viz. physical hunger, mental hunger, hunger for power, hunger of sophisticated lifestyle, hunger to survive in this competitive world etc. Here, in this play, in four sequences, we have made an attempt to reproduce different types of hunger in an artistic way…
Sequence 1: Here, with the help of a photograph The vulture and the little girl, taken by Kevin Carter, we try to depict the actual hunger.
Sequence 2: With the help of a photograph Napalm girl by Nick Ut and Some text from Alice in Wonderland of Lewis Carroll we try to illustrate hunger for power, sadistic hunger etc.
Sequence 3: Here, with the help of some portion of the poem “The Walrus and The Carpenter” of Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There by Lewis Carroll we try to portray the hunger for power and hunger of sophisticated lifestyle, hunger to survive in this competitive world etc.
Sequence 4: With photographs taken from the Internet we try to depict sexual abuse (physical hunger) that occurs in day to day life.
Directors Note
Everyone is suffering from different kinds of hunger. The overall socio-economic and political condition of a country/world seems to affect such a condition. Therefore, in this play we seek to reproduce some metaphorical representations of the day-to-day’s myth of hunger in the contemporary world. With the help of some of the theatrical techniques, we have adopted the non-linear approach to present our main theme in a stylized way.
